mc.c's turntables, birthday 2025 edition
5/27/25, 12:00a
unironically i forgot about the month of april. it's my birthday month though! in fact after this is posted i will be twenty five. yippie!
red vox - crony
a new red vox single? for ME?
i'm really, really liking the direction this upcoming album is going. the heaver guitar riffs harkening back to WCGW are always a big favorite for me and all, but the synth and vocal direction actually feels a
lot like
another light and i am fucking EXCITED about that. another light is just a great album, i'm not the first or last person to say it's probably one of their best. the lyrics are very good and entertaining but despite the entertainment it doesn't feel like a Meme song like garbage land. i'm quaking. i need the next album.
FLAVOR FOLEY ft. hatsune miku - static
a new FF single! i actually really like this a lot, i feel like the vibes of the MV and song itself are really fucking strong and the lyrics are very catchy. a nostalgic, saturday morning crt cartoon star trying to upkeep a facade without mentally breaking at her waning popularity? yeah, this is milesbait. this was honestly more critical originally, but i let it cook for a little bit and came back to it and i REALLY like this song honestly. i think i originally attributed a tuning problem to this song but really, i'm just going to be honest: i don't actually like miku english very much, so this is kind of succeeding in spite of it much like SAWTOWNE's run of bangers! very excited for their next drop! 9/10
car seat headrest - scholars
listened to this on recc from tautology! really interesting album, i AM familiar with csh loosely by listening to some amazing covers they did on the floor of my husband's lesbian friends apartment playing board games. that all is to say i think i am a big fan of ther music style and this album i think is not
quite for me, but i think this album is good! it's a story album so (Gesturing) i'm going to be referencing pink floyd and mcr again. in the citadark expanded universe.
pros: yeah this album IS good. musically. very consistent sound throughout, the lyrics are on the whole really fucking powerful, and i am a BIG fan of csh's vocals for sure.
cons: this does the thing pink floyd's
the wall did, where a bulk of the album is songs over 8-9 mnutes (with the second to last song being 19 minutes), and as i've discussed on the pink floyd reviews, i just genuinely don't like songs that go this long. i have this problem with the admittedly SHORTER songs that are basically 2 songs stitched together on the og. green day
american idiot album. if i like a small portion of a 12 minute song, that basically means i'm probably not going to add it to a playlist because i will just have to hit skip after like 3 minutes.
anyways, that's a well-known pet peeve of mine, so i don't super hold it against them. i really liked
the catastrophe (good luck wth that, man!) and
equals. personally, this is like a 7.5/10 for me; objectively however this album is a 9/10.
the raconteurs - broken boy soldiers
found this album through
steady as she goes and had a litte listen sesh. i love...
half of this band's sound. <>steady as she goes,
broken boy soldier,
level, and
blue veins are really fucking good and the rest of this album is so tonaly divorced from those songs that it honestly made me a little sad! but still glad i listened to it because approximately half of this band's sound is this garage rock style that i love and you know what? half of the time is not bad. 8~/10.
SPECIAL EVENT!!!!!! THE MILES C.C BIRTHDAY ALBUM DNA
considered wildly to be 'required listening' for the optimal mc.c experience! released 5/27/?? ALLEGEDLY!
it's my birthday! 5/27! so to do something sillyfun i am going to rapid-fire some of my favorite albums of all time for your listening pleasure!
my chemical romance - welcome to the black parade ● the scemo classic honestly. there isn't a mcr album i
dislike but i do think wttbp is probably the quintessential miles mcr album. going to get "you should've raised a baby girl / i should've been a better son" tattooed one day probably.
fall out boy - save rock and roll ● it was a toss-up between this and AB/AP for the fob rep, but like. of course this was going on here. heaven, iowa off smfs is my insta profile lyrics. fob is deeply embedded in the soul.
the mountain goats - tallahassee ● of course this is on here. this album made me have a fucking mental breakdown at 17 because i understood it too well. john darnielle will always be here for me, and speaking of which:
the mountain goats - beat the champ ● this one was a toss between
btc and
jenny from thebes honestly but the legend of chavo gurrero and heel turn 2 are Iconic miles classics.
red vox - another light ● honestly... i almost put wcgw here, but considerng i have
the limited edition poster for the single release of in the garden i think that's a little disengenuous considering. both of those albums released at a pretty shit garbage time in my life and kept me going for a while, but another light left a more lasting impression on me, i think.
glass animals - dreamland ● absolutely no fucking way this wasn't making it on here this was
the album of quarantine for me and like, the only thin tether between me and fucking jumpng off a cliff that year. "you want girls dressed in drag / you want boys with guitars" and "i'm falling now but it feels so wrong / you talk like a man and you taste like the sun" have lived forever in my head since debut.
the garages - UNSTABLE ● come on now you didn't think we were getting out of this without a garages album did you? my fucking site title is from a garages song. i have waxed lyrical about blaseball and the garages' influence on my life all over this site you don't need me to carry on much longer.
and thus ends the lightning round! i just wanted to do something lighthearted and fun since this is gonna end up published on my birthday :) maybe i'll make a quintessential miles mixtape sometime, who knows!
